What is Nia?
Nia is...a holistic mind-body-spirit fitness program and lifestyle practice. You will work out—but not wear out—your body as you gain cardiovascular health, overall vitality, and fitness. You can lose weight while gaining balance and strength as you reconnect with the joy of being in your body.
Created by Debbie Rosas and Carlos Rosas in 1983, The Nia Technique combines the explosive power of Martial arts, the concentration of Healing arts, and the grace of Dance; blending music, vocal sounding and self-expression into dynamic, hour-long routines. Nine movement forms inspired Nia: Taekwondo, Aikido, and Tai Chi; yoga, Feldenkrais, and the Alexander Technique; modern dance, jazz, and Duncan dance. Nia's barefoot, grounded approach maximizes body efficiency and teaches you to consciously move "The Body's Way." While most often practiced in hour-long classes, the true depth of the work lies in a rich body of education that develops into a powerful life practice. With a philosophy rooted in "The Joy of Movement," Nia teaches people of all lifestyles to choose Pleasure as the path toward physical, mental and emotional health.
Revolutionizing the world of fitness and wellbeing, Nia today is taught to over 100,000 students by more than 2,000 Certified Teachers in 42 countries. Nia bursts boundaries of age, gender and fitness levels, delivering a fun, effective and life changing practice for all walks of life.
